The Steering Committee of The Norland Farmers’ Market @ Ward Memorial Park acknowledges that we are establishing this market on the treaty lands of the Anishinabek and Huron-Wendat. We are grateful for the land itself and honour the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. We are all called to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land that produces food for us and that we conduct trade on. We make this acknowledgement to: remind ourselves how we remain benefactors of colonization in using this land remember the people who are no longer here to tell their pre-colonial histories begin the process of decolonization. We understand that this gesture of acknowledgment is but one step in our own education about the land and the traditional peoples who cared for it for generations before the arrival of our ancestors.
